The Route 66 Fun Run Committee has been busy working to make the 2019 car rally the best yet. A new drive thru shield will debut this year along with an expanded car show area in Downtown Kingman.
When you show someone a photo of a car driving under the iconic white & black drive-thru shield, they ask “where can I get that photo?” because it is such an iconic symbol. Unfortunately, the Fun Run car show is the one chance to do so, but the wind got the better of the beloved drive-thru shield the last time it was put up, necessitating a new arch and a different approach. The Committee arrived at an inflatable arch that’s easier to set up and take down. The new drive thru arch will be able to withstand more wind gusts up to 20mph, more than the previous shield. It will also be more portable, which enables the event organizers set it up in more than one location during the weekend.
In 2018, as cars continued to arrive from Seligman into Kingman, parking spots became scarce. The 2019 Fun Run has expanded the road closure on Beale Street to include 2nd Street to 5th Streets, in addition to Andy Devine Ave, to make room for more cars. Everyone is looking forward to a fun Fun Run in 2019!
