It's year two for the Kingman Route 66 Fest and the event promises to be double the celebration with added shows and uniquely Route 66 contests.
Live music, regional craft beers, food trucks, arts & crafts vendors, zip-line, car show and bike show are all coming back to this year’s festival. To that, Kingman has added a vintage trailer show called the Tow ‘N Show, and Route 66 presentations. Three contests are also getting added on Saturday at this year’s festival; a pin up contest, road sign graffiti contest, and a Route 66 shield toss contest.
The Queen of the Mother Road Pin-up contest will be a rockabilly inspired theme with fifteen contestants. Each contestant will illustrate their artistic expression, stylizing in 1940s to 60s attire and make up. The contest, hosted by Miss Elvi Pearl, will be based on answering questions, their presence and personality on stage, and a posing with a rat rod. The winner will be titled Queen of the Mother Road, with runner up titles being Miss 66 Fest, Miss Rockin’ Rockabilly, and the Heart of Route 66 for the last of which only local contestants are eligible.
The graffiti contest is the first such event to be held at a Mother Road event. Twelve contestants will apply their talent to decommissioned road signs with spray paint in hand. The winner will be selected by people’s choice and will walk away $150 richer and hold the title until the 2023 Festival. Event spectators will also get an opportunity to purchase and mark up their own decommissioned signs immediately following the contest.
The Route 66 Shield toss is an entirely new spectacle where 20 contestants will toss three Route 66 Shields, aiming for a target between Twin Arrows. The contestant landing their shield closest to the bullseye will claim the title and a $100 prize.
